The 8th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), honored the best films released in 1935, and took place on March 5, 1936, at the Biltmore Bowl of the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, California. During the ceremony, AMPAS presented Academy Awards in 17 categories. The 7th AMPAS-President Frank Capra hosted the ceremony for the first time.

Winners and nominees

Mutiny on the Bounty received the most nominations with 8; The Lives of a Bengal Lancer came in second with 7. The Informer received 4 awards; A Midsummer Night's Dream came in second with 2. Walt Disney was nominated for a 4th consecutive time, Pete Smith, Franklin Hansen, and Nathan Levinson were nominated for a 3rd consecutive time and Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert, Bette Davis, Ben Hecht, Richard Day, Van Nest Polglase, Carroll Clark, Victor Milner, John P. Livadary, Thomas T. Moulton, Carl Dreher, Douglas Shearer, Edmund H. Hansen, Jules White, Max Steiner were nominated for a 2nd consecutive time.
